2/ Teaching Philosophy

Design education is fundamentally about building the habit of learning so students can adapt across tools, mediums, and disciplines while discovering an authentic creative voice. It blends traditional design principles with technology, user-centered thinking, and contemporary cultural references, treating problem-solving as a practical skill and creativity as a sustainable way of life rather than just a career path.
Teaching is responsive and student-centered: critique and discussion are led by students, who use graphic design to explore personal questions and social issues, communicate across cultures, and design human-centered systems. This perspective is shaped by a international background and years of professional expertise and teaching, informing a commitment to inclusive, reflective classrooms where students’ diverse identities are seen as strengths and where integrated design thinking, visual storytelling, accessibility are central.

This course had a tremendous impact on my learning experience as a UX/UI designer. Before this class, I had no knowledge of Figma, prototyping, or many UX concepts, and now these skills have completely transformed the way I design. The assignments and class activities helped me understand information architecture, user flows, personas, and visual hierarchy in a much deeper and more practical way. Interacting with my peers and presenting my work regularly also helped me become more confident speaking in front of native-English speakers. The instructor’s lectures were incredibly clear, organized, and full of valuable resources, and the supportive learning environment made me feel encouraged and included throughout the semester.

After working with Anjana, I no longer have to think about what things look like. I can just do my actual work – while knowing that I look like an adult and not a child scribbling in Microsoft Paint. The brand assets she created for me have freed up an incalculable amount of mental bandwidth for me. I now know that, whatever I have to create for my business, it’s going to look good. Everything works together. Everything goes well together. I no longer have to worry I’m going to look like a child scribbling in Microsoft Paint when I’m trying to get my work out there. I can focus on the part that I do and not worry about all the other parts I don’t do, and I know those pieces will still look amazing.

Anjana translated my very vague feeling words and vibe request into not just a color palette and a font and some little personalized drawings, but into a whole aesthetic that captures exactly how I want people to feel when they encounter my work. The assets Anjana made for me really capture the core of who I am and what I do so well that even if I changed directions tomorrow, I’m confident I could still use them. They’re beautiful and they’re useful forever.
